When we two parted
? In silence and tears,
Half broken-hearted
To sever for years,
揮手自茲去，

Truly that hour foretold
Sorrow to this!
花容盡失色，
吻別重悲寒。
離恨鳥(niǎo)驚心，
哀傷何以絕。
The dew of the morning

朝霧露華濃，
寒凝眉宇間。
彼時(shí)花濺淚，
今朝悲心田。
（詩(shī)作的上半部分還在懷念過(guò)去的戀人，沉吟婉轉(zhuǎn)，九曲回腸。下半闕卻猝然轉(zhuǎn)折，羞愧于昔日戀人的輕浮浪名。詩(shī)的韻律和氣質(zhì)也突然轉(zhuǎn)變，表達(dá)了羞愧、不屑、譴責(zé)糅雜在一起的思念。）

And light is thy fame;
I hear thy name spoken,
And share in its shame.
盟誓今何在，
浪名招蜂蝶。
芳名每提及，
無(wú)奈羞愧間。
They name thee before me,
A knell to mine ear;
A shudder comes o'er me--
Why wert thou so dear?
屢聞卿名諱，
鐘磬復(fù)悲鳴。
愁思寒徹骨，
情長(zhǎng)期綿綿。
They know not I knew thee,
Who knew thee too well:--
Long, long shall I rue thee,
Too deeply to tell.
說(shuō)者未經(jīng)意，
此情已銘心。
憐惜不盡憾，
蝕骨難言傳。
In secret we met--
In? silence I grieve,
That thy heart could forget,

佳期共剪燭，
