之前給11月群譯友做經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)人筆記的時候，遇到這樣一個句子：
But another is that the brain-stretching potential of edtech has remained unproven.
但還有一個原因是教育技術(shù)提升才智的潛力尚未得到證實。
當(dāng)時就覺得 brain-stretching 這個詞好傳神：adj.鍛煉大腦的；提升才智的；擴(kuò)展思維的
Stretch這個詞有一個意義被很多人忽略了:
If you say that a job or task stretches you, you mean that you like it because it makes you work hard and use all your energy and skills so that you do not become bored or achieve less than you should. 使充分發(fā)揮
I'm trying to move on and stretch myself with something different.
我正試圖換個工作，使自己在不同的事情上得到充分發(fā)揮。
Brain-stretching可以是充分發(fā)揮大腦的，那就是鍛煉大腦的，提升才智思維的。
下次可以試著用stretch去替換take full advantage of這些詞呢。順便小小總結(jié)一下“充分利用”、“充分發(fā)揮”的鄰居們~~
開頭用我make the best of sth鎮(zhèn)樓：
盡量利用，充分利用(時間、機(jī)會等)；盡情享用；(在不利條件下)盡量(或妥善)利用；善于處理(困難、問題等)
He can strive to make the best of life.
他可以努力奮斗，過好人生的每一天。
make use of sb./sth. : to use sb./sth., especially in order to get an advantage 使用；利用（以謀私利）
You can make use of the building materials that have been lying by.
你們可以利用那些被擱置不用的建筑材料。
We could make better use of our resources.
我們可以更有效地利用我們的資源。
optimise: to improve the way that something is done or used so that it is as effective as possible使最優(yōu)化，使盡可能完善，使盡量有效
They need to optimize the use of available resources.
他們需要充分利用手上的資源。
take (full) advantage of: to use a particular situation to do or get what you want 利用某物（做某事）
I took advantage of the good weather to paint the shed.
我趁天氣好給棚屋刷上油漆。
You’ll want to take full advantage of the beach-front clubs.
你會想在海濱俱樂部里充分享受一番。
put sth. to good use: 有效/充分使用/利用
The techniques that were refined in a bid to learn more about the quantum world are now being harnessed to put it to good use.
為進(jìn)一步了解量子世界而改進(jìn)的技術(shù)現(xiàn)在派上了用場。
put/turn sth to good account (formal): to use sth in a good or helpful way 善用；利用
Perhaps she could put some of her talents to good account by helping us.
通過幫助我們，也許她能把自己的某些才能充分發(fā)揮出來。
capitalize on sth.: to use a situation or something good that you have, in order to get an advantage for yourself充分利用
Ecuador has capitalized on its natural beauty to attract tourism.
厄瓜多爾充分利用其自然美景來吸引游客。
avail yourself of sth.: to accept an offer or use an opportunity to do something 利用〔提議、機(jī)會等〕
How many schools avail themselves of this opportunity each year?
每年有多少學(xué)校利用這種機(jī)會？
