up until 是一個(gè)英語短語，表示“直到……為止”或“一直到……”，強(qiáng)調(diào)某個(gè)動作、狀態(tài)或事件持續(xù)到某一特定時(shí)間點(diǎn)才終止。常見搭配：

up until now（直到現(xiàn)在）

up until then（直到那時(shí)）

up until recently（直到最近）

up until,還可以直接接從句，比如：?Up?until?she spoke, I didn't recognize her.?

2、Yes, they thought the travel from the east was impossible because of the huge, empty stretch of ocean that lies between the islands and the nearest inhabited land.(C10 Test2 Par3第17句)

我們在中文中經(jīng)常說的'一片廣闊無垠的。。?！?，在英文中怎么表達(dá)，就是這句話中的 the huge empty stretch of something, 比如一片廣闊無垠的草原，可以說 the huge empty stretch of grassland.

3、And another argument was that there was no tradition of large ship-building in the communities lying to the east of Polynesia.(C10 Test2 Par3第19句)

這句話中，使用了to the east of somewhere, 就是表示位于什么地方的東部，但是并沒有與這個(gè)地方相連，是分開的。
