Three Thai politicians, eager to attract publicity, got the wrong kind of headlines after they were thrown from an elephant they were riding to register their candidacy for the general election. Chanchai Kijprasert, Jarin Saiwan and Pichai Konthongern fell eight feet (2.4 meters) after the pachyderm panicked on seeing traffic and bolted, throwing off its passengers, Thai newspapers reported. The three candidates of Democrat Party were on their way to the Provincial Election Administrative Organization’s office in Phetchabun Province, 350 km (220 miles) north of the Thai capital of Bangkok. Pichai broke his arm in the fall and stay overnight in hospital. His two colleagues were badly bruised.
