Hiking
Last Saturday (2019-07-20), we went to MacRitchie Reservoir (麥里芝蓄水池) to go hiking. MacRitchie Reservoir is Singapore's oldest reservoir, and an important source of water supply.
The reservoir has been transformed under PUB's Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) Programme into a venue for recreation and community bonding to bring us close to water.
We met snakes、monkeys、squirrels、pheasants on the road. I saw an interesting scene that the monkeys were busy catching lice for each other, they are dedicated and the action is skilled, just like a person.
There are different hiking routes, 7km, 10km, etc. We selected the 7km route, it's a nice route, there are many trees and green plants along the roadside, so it's not sunned at all.
Stroll along the submerged boardwalk, take in scenic views from the bandstand, or head over to the Paddle Lodge to enjoy some kayaking. There are many places as follow:
Fitness corner:健身角
Kayak Launching Pontoon:皮劃艇下水浮碼頭
Paddle Lodge:劃槳小屋
Fishing Ground:漁場(chǎng)
Boat Shed:舢板棚
Pump Station:泵站
Amenities Centre:文娛中心
Landscape Pond:景觀水池
Children's Playground:兒童游樂(lè)場(chǎng)
Draw-off Tower:抽出塔
Bandstand:音樂(lè)臺(tái)
Lim Bo Seng Tomb
Submerged Boardwalk:水下木板路
Bus Stop
We will go to Tioman island in the National Holiday of Singapore. Sherlynn asked a question "what will you do, cycling or diving?", I think I did not get her points, I thought it's how do you go there, driving or something? It's so awkward. But no worries, the first time and also last time.
About diving, it's a good topic to share in the dinner conversation. For diving, there are deep diving and snorkeling. we will go to snorkeling. Please summary how to snorkeling after come back and share with them.
A number of sporting activities are catered for, such as hiking, cycling, swimming, climbing, scuba diving, snorkeling, and kayaking.
Tour to Tioman island
About snorkeling, we need one snorkel to breathe/ for breath, and a life jacket. we cannot put the entrance into the sea/ocean, it only can be left above water, and then breathe well underwater. There are many little fishes, they are colorful and so cute, they are close to the surface of the water, so sometimes, I can touch them. and there are many beautiful corals with beautiful colors, for example, pink, black, blue, yellow, etc. Some fishes swim among that corals. And a big surprise is I saw a big fish, like a whale, so long and fat, I floated following it, but it swims so fast. That day, there are some waves an wind, so it's not easy to move. When I aborad, so tired, they are a different level compared with swimming in the pool.
About the beach, they are so nice, especially, when laid on the sand listening to the sea, blown in the wind at night. And we found a beach which is separated by big stones, we got through such a small hole, it's a totally different place, very clean and quiet, there are many kinds of shells on the bank, we collected shells, dabbled, and took funny, interesting photos.
The sun is very hot, and most of us were burnt. I got not only tan but also a sunburn.
But when we came back and went through customs in Malaysia, it took more than 6 hours to wait, from 5pm to 3am, because they only provided manually check, not any automatically equipment, it's so slow. I did some search, they say for the same scenario it will take 30-40 minutes to go through customs in Singapore, but it will take 3-4, or even 7-8 hours to do the same thing in Malaysia.
We stayed in a holiday resort named Berjaya Tioman Resort. The resort is so big, there are restaurants, bar, some water activities. We also rowed a little boat accommodating 2 people with the paddle.
