創(chuàng)作背景
1984年，英國(guó)歌手菲爾·科林斯和鮑勃·格爾多夫召集了十余位歌手錄制了歌曲《Do they know it's Christmas》，為非洲饑民籌集了許多善款[4]。
英國(guó)歌壇的此項(xiàng)義舉打動(dòng)了美國(guó)歌手哈里·貝拉方特，他認(rèn)為美國(guó)人也不能落后，這一想法得到了許多人的支持。當(dāng)時(shí)，埃塞俄比亞和蘇丹的食物短缺、人民挨餓的消息同時(shí)也震驚了邁克爾· 杰克遜和萊昂內(nèi)爾·里奇，兩人認(rèn)為自己該做點(diǎn)什么。于是他們合寫(xiě)了這首歌曲。兩人費(fèi)了四天的時(shí)間寫(xiě)作曲，里奇先完成一部分，杰克遜看到后靈感大發(fā)，一夜之間就把全曲寫(xiě)好。之后杰克遜又花了兩個(gè)半小時(shí)作詞[4][3]。
1985年1月28日，全美音樂(lè)獎(jiǎng)?lì)C獎(jiǎng)典禮結(jié)束后，邁克爾杰克遜號(hào)召45位歌手來(lái)到位于洛杉磯的A&M錄音室，花了一晚上時(shí)間錄制出了《We Are The World》[4]。
